TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN MALAYSIA – PART 1

WHAT IS ROAD TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT?

Road traffic management is performed night or day for long hours in all weathers and is considered a hazardous job due to the high risk of vehicle movements on the road. Thus, a traffic management plan is vital to ensure smooth operation of the road network at the work site and the safety of road users/workers. And this is only possible with safety equipment to manage the traffic.

Typically, a work site will be set up with warning signage well in advance of the actual work area. For example, if lanes have been closed, large flashing arrows may be utilized to give warning to move over in a specific distance ahead. The work site will usually involve closing a part of the road for the work area.

Proper traffic control and safety procedure is mandatory for all types of works as per JKR Arahan Teknik clause 1.20 (Maintenance of existing roads &  Protection of traffic ) in JKR I SPJ I 1988. (Standard Road works Specification)
